Valencia Beaches: The Complete Guide
By Paul Osito โ Beach Connoisseur, Reluctant Swimmer
Valencia has a secret that most European city-break destinations would kill for: 11 kilometres of urban beach, accessible by tram from the city centre in 20 minutes, backed by excellent restaurants, and washed by the warm Mediterranean.
Malvarrosa Beach
The main event. A wide, sandy beach stretching 1.8km, lined with chiringuitos (beach bars) and restaurants serving fresh seafood and paella. The water is clean, the sand is golden, and the atmosphere is quintessentially Valencian.
Best for: First-time visitors, families, paella lunch
How to get there: Tram line 4 from Pont de Fusta (20 minutes)
La Patacona Beach
Just north of Malvarrosa, La Patacona is slightly quieter and backed by the charming Alboraya village โ home to the best horchata in the world. The beach is slightly narrower but the restaurants are excellent.
Best for: A quieter alternative to Malvarrosa
Paul's tip: Walk from Malvarrosa to La Patacona along the promenade at sunset.
El Saler Beach
15km south of the city, El Saler is a natural beach within the La Albufera Natural Park. Pine trees, dunes, and crystal-clear water. Significantly less crowded than the urban beaches.
Best for: Nature lovers, families, anyone wanting to escape the crowds
How to get there: Bus 25 from the city centre (30 minutes)
Cullera & Gandia (Day Trips)
For truly spectacular beaches, take the train south to Cullera (45 minutes) or Gandia (1 hour). Both have wide, clean beaches with excellent facilities and a fraction of the crowds of the Costa del Sol.
