Valencia with Kids: The Complete Family Travel Guide

Travelling with children is an exercise in managed chaos. The good news: Valencia is extraordinarily well-suited to family travel. The beaches are safe, the food is excellent, the attractions are genuinely engaging, and the Spanish attitude to children in restaurants means you'll never feel unwelcome.

Top Family Attractions

L'Oceanogràfic (City of Arts and Sciences)

Europe's largest oceanarium. Sharks, dolphins, beluga whales, penguins, and an underwater tunnel that will produce genuine wonder in children of all ages. Allow a full day. Bring snacks.

Gulliver Park (Turia Gardens)

A giant Gulliver figure lying in the Turia Gardens, covered in slides, climbing frames, and ropes. Children go absolutely feral here in the best possible way. Free entry. Bring a change of clothes.

Bioparc Valencia

An immersive zoo designed to recreate African ecosystems. Gorillas, elephants, rhinos, and meerkats in naturalistic habitats. One of the best zoos in Europe.

City of Arts and Sciences Science Museum

Interactive exhibits on science, technology, and nature. Genuinely engaging for children aged 6+. The building itself is enough to spark curiosity.

Malvarrosa Beach

Children love beaches. Valencia's beaches are safe, clean, and have shallow water perfect for young swimmers. The beach bars serve excellent patatas bravas and calamares.

Family-Friendly Neighbourhoods

Ruzafa: Great restaurants, parks, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Eixample: Wide pavements, parks, and excellent family restaurants.

Malvarrosa/Cabanyal: Beach access, relaxed pace, seafood restaurants.

Practical Tips

  • Spanish restaurants welcome children at all hours — don't worry about eating late.
  • The Turia Gardens is perfect for cycling with children (bike hire available).
  • Most museums offer free or reduced entry for children under 12.
  • The tram to the beach is an adventure in itself for small children.
